Office Ergonomic Services & Products

Employees at non-adjustable workstations were found to generate 20 times the workers compensation costs of employees at user-adjustable workstations with access to a proactive ergonomics program that included professional ergonomic evaluations, in a 2011 study of 6,200 employees across three sites over 3 years.  Adding in additional costs for HR time, facilities staff time, retrofitting workstations, and lost employee productivity makes the argument for a proactive ergonomic program even stronger!  Imagine YOUR ROI!  [Kay, G. “Evidence: Investing in Adjustable Workstations Produces Healthy ROI”, Ergonomics Today (August 2011)]

We offer a wide range of ergonomics consultation and training services for employees, managers, and full departments from short preventative visits to ADA or after injury accommodations. For a full listing all in one place , please download our Office Catalogue.

Learn about our different Assessments & Interventions below:

Ergo Screens

This type of evaluation is generally 20-30 min. per person on-site. We provide you with a brief report within 10 days that includes a short description of the employee report and additional recommendations for you to follow-up on.  A handout is typically provided for each employee.  These evaluations are beneficial for new employees and are also highly impactful when conducted within 3 weeks after our employee workshop (Take Charge of Your Ergonomic Health!©).

Full Ergonomic Evaluation

This type of evaluation generally takes 45-60 minutes per person on-site.  These generally include cases of Early Intervention, Discomfort, Medical or Injury.  A symptom survey and consent form are sent prior to the appointment and then reviewed with the individual once on-site.  We employ an educational approach and will make immediate adjustments on-site as able and as appropriate to past or current reported discomfort.  You will be provided with a comprehensive report within 10 days that includes the employee report, interventions and education provided on-site, before and after photos and additional recommendations for you to follow up on.  A handout is typically provided.  Afterward, we provide brief remote follow-up at no additional charge and keep you in the loop.

ADA Accommodation

This type of evaluation generally takes 1.25 - 1.5 hours per person on-site. These can be done for work-related or non-work related injury or disability requiring careful attention to reduce the cause of or aggravating factors for the injury or disability.  A symptom survey and consent form are sent out prior to the appointment and then reviewed with the individual once on-site.  We employ an educational approach and will make immediate adjustments on-site as able. The report has a similar content structure as the “Full Ergonomic Evaluation”.  A handout is typically provided. Afterward, we provide brief remote follow-up at no additional charge and will let you know if we are closing the case or if there are unresolved issues.

Remote Ergonomic Evaluation

A Remote Ergonomic Evaluation generally takes 30-60 minutes on the telephone or video conference.  These are typically most appropriate for ergonomic screens or early intervention.  Prior to the consultation we send out a symptom survey and request photos and workstation measurements which are used during the consultation.  Occasionally we will request photos after the consultation to ensure appropriate changes were made.  The report includes a short description of the employee report, changes the employee made during the evaluation and additional recommendations to follow-up on.

Anonymous Symptom Survey

This is a leading indicator tactic to reach best practices within global safety standards. We ask employees to indicate areas of discomfort associated with various job tasks via an anonymous online survey.  This assists you in recognizing and prioritizing primary areas of focus to reduce risk factors. We analyze the data and provide a summary that includes our recommendations.  This can be repeated at a minimum of 6 months after intervention.

Prevention through Design is the process for reducing occupational health and safety hazards during the design process to prevent work related injuries, maximize efficiency and improve profitability associated with various job tasks, job site and the facility.  It is considered a world class best practice!  This can include the following services:

Facility Design

We do not want you to purchase the wrong furniture or equipment, or configure it in a way that causes injury risk and human inefficiencies…ultimately wasting money retrofitting later! Whether a reconfiguration, remodel or a new construction, we can collaborate with your architect, design team, and furniture vendors to provide a safe and efficient workplace.

Purchasing Guidelines

Purchasing guidelines help streamline procurement and avoid either potential, harmful, or unnecessary purchases.  We can provide a list of our preferred ergonomic equipment that you and your outside consultant can efficiently reference for equipment recommendations.  We can help you develop standardized purchasing guidelines and ergo criteria for equipment specific to your organization, which can include collaboration with your vendors to create custom order forms or website links.

This dove-tails well with the Train the Evaluator: Office Ergonomics Screens© course, as your in-house specialist can then use the established guidelines with confidence when making recommendations.

Policy & Procedure Guidelines

Develop new or audit existing policies and procedures within your ergonomic / health / safety departments.  This can include topics such as ergonomic equipment policy, requests, protocols, remote worker issues, and general guidelines.

Dry Eyes

Dry Eyes while working on the computer? Try lowering your monitor slightly and possibly tilt it up towards you.   This allows more of your eye lid to cover a larger portion of your eye ball.  Don’t forget to blink! Also, remember to look away from your monitor every ~30-40 minutes; perhaps close your eyes for ~5 seconds every ~20-30 minutes to increase lubrication of the eye.
