Individual Workstation Evaluations

The focus is on mitigating minor symptoms and preventing injury or re-injury while using existing equipment. Equipment is only recommended when clinically necessary.

New Employee Orientation: Determination and documentation of a new employee's appropriate initial set-up, considering any past or current pain complaints. Useful when moving offices for re-creating the appropriate set-up. Individual set-up recommendations would be kept in personnel files. Handouts provided for the employee. Generally ~30 min. on-site; 15 min. report.

1:1 Screens: Best after an employee workshop. Multiple back-to-back screens. Immediate adjustments of high priority concerns. Action items recommended are documented. Generally ~30 min. per person on-site; 10 min. report (per person).

Early Intervention: For any employee with discomfort but no diagnosis. Documentation of complaint, intervention taken, and recommended action items provided. Generally 45-60 min. on-site; 20-30 min. report.

After Injury: Worker’s compensation claim or non-work related injury requiring careful attention to reducing the cause of or aggravating factors for the injury. Full write-up: complaints, medical history, photos, concerns observed, interventions taken on-site, recommended action items, follow up until reasonable resolution. Generally 1-1.5 hours on-site; 1-1.5 hour report. Up to 1 hour of follow up is provided at no additional fee.

Job Modification & Accommodation: This evaluation is geared to assist previously injured employees or employees with disabilities meet the essential physical demands of a job by modifying equipment, environment, and methods. There is often state funding available for modifications of equipment and environment. A comprehensive report is provided.

Training Workshops

Office Ergonomics
This workshop focuses on the symptoms and causes of cumulative trauma and how to reduce the risks associated with those aches and pains and emphasizes the concept of improving productivity and comfort by incorporating sound ergonomic and injury prevention principles. See our Office Ergonomics Manual for reference after our workshop for independent problem-solving. The basic workshop is one hour, but you can add on with any or all of the following segments if you would like:

Mock workstation for hands-on problem solving and learning
Office Stretches
Chair Clinic

NEW! Chair Clinic

This 30-minute workshop is very hands-on, where people learn how to fit their own chairs to their own bodies right there in the classroom. We ask attendees to bring their chairs with them, as every brand of chair works just a bit differently.

NEW!  Train the Evaluator:  Office Ergonomic Screens

This program has been approved for 10.5 (General) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). "The use of this seal is not an endorsement by HRCI of the quality of the program. It means that this program has met HRCI’s criteria to be pre-approved for recertification credit."

Your Aching Body

This workshop focuses on the symptoms and causes of cumulative trauma and how to reduce the risks associated with those aches and pains using sound injury prevention and ergonomic principles. This training is most effective if it is preceded by 1-2 hours of on-site observation of work being performed.

Purchasing Guildelines

During my walk through, I noticed several brands of chairs with varying adjustability and functionality, including some that are a liability with 4-star bases; several styles of keyboards; CRT and flat screen monitors in variable positions.

It may be appropriate to develop guidelines with equipment criteria at the minimum and standardized choices at the maximum. The latter would involve human trials via a focus group. We could organize a “lab” and ensure vendor relationships and purchasing protocols are established, as well as ensure that samples are available for trial (except chairs).

We would use the selected equipment in our individual workstation evaluation recommendations as needed, and only go outside those when clinically required.

This would dove-tail well with the Office Ergonomics Screens: Train the Trainer program, as your in-house specialist could then use the guidelines with confidence. Annual updates may be necessary.
